Career Spotlight - Partner Jack Edwards

Published: 07/04/2024 By Jack Edwards

From Work Experience to Partner; Our career spotlight this month shines on Jack Edwards, Partner in our Salisbury Office, whose first taste of the firm was during a summer’s work experience while studying at the Royal Agricultural College.

In 2009, when I had just completed the 2nd year of my Rural Land Management degree at the Royal Agricultural College (as it was back then), Symonds & Sampson offered me a summer’s work experience in the Salisbury Office. The opportunity to put what I had learned during lectures into practice was immensely beneficial to me, and I realised that I wanted to work for a firm where the work was as varied as the client base. After graduation, I was offered a full-time position initially assisting 2 surveyors, however, I was quickly given responsibility for carrying out my own work and was set a modest fee target. Peers of mine in other firms felt they were being pigeonholed in their work and began to lose interest, but I had no problem whatsoever in gaining the necessary experience to enable me to pass my APC on my first attempt in Autumn 2012.

The firm has a very supportive approach to nurturing the younger professionals’ careers, encouraging and allowing you as a professional adviser to identify your strengths and ensuring that you are doing the type of work that you do best. As a firm, we are now very lucky to have so many talented young professionals actively developing their careers with us and this is something which has noticeably developed since I first joined.

I became a Partner in April 2018, based in Salisbury and expanding the Rural and Professional Department covering East Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire.
