Finn Rawlings joined Symonds & Sampson in 2024 as a Graduate Surveyor in our commercial department. A year on, he talks about the broad experience he is gaining as he works towards his APC qualification, and the wider social side of the firm."My time within Symonds & Sampson’s commercial team has been both rewarding and enriching. I am fortunate to have been involved in a wide range of services that have contributed significantly to both my professional and personal development.
"Putting the knowledge gained at Oxford Brookes University into practical settings has not only given me professional confidence but also the chance to gain valuable industry insights. I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey, embracing new challenges and learning opportunities as I went along.
“Under the guidance of Ryan Holmes and Jan Merriott, I am establishing my own portfolio of clients while undertaking a variety of work, including valuations (both formal and informal), rent reviews, rates reviews, Landlord and Tenant work, and commercial property agency. The sale of the former Lloyds Bank building in Lansdowne Crescent in Bournemouth, which sold at auction in May for 127% over the guide, was a particular highlight!
“These have all provided me with unique challenges that have tested my knowledge and helped to improve my overall professional skills. I am part of Symonds & Sampson’s Graduate Training Programme, working towards achieving my RICS accreditation. I plan to take my APC exams next year, aiming to fulfil my goal and become a fully qualified Chartered Surveyor.
“My year with Symonds & Sampson hasn’t been all work! As a keen sportsman, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed representing the firm in a variety of events, including a half-marathon, padel tennis, and beach rugby. Not only has this kept me physically active, but it’s been a great way to get to know colleagues within both our firm and other professionals in the industry.
