This September, DEFRA are opening their Calf Housing for Health and Welfare Grant to fund cattle housing for farmers. Symonds & Sampson can assist with all aspects of the application process. The grant will have a three-phase application stage which will enable farmers to either build new, upgrade, or replace existing calf housing buildings to deliver health and welfare benefits for your calves. The grant funded calf housing must provide a good ambient environment and facilitate social contact through pair or group housing.
To be eligible to apply, you must either own the land you are building on or have a tenancy agreement for the land which runs for five years after the project is complete. You must also intend to use the building for a minimum of five years.
The grant can pay for capital costs to build new, or upgrade existing, calf housing buildings. A variety of building styles and specifications can be applied for, and we would be delighted to discuss the options with you.
DEFRA have stated that project buildings must have a roof structure that can support solar PV panels, either for use as part of the project or potential future use, unless there are circumstances that should prevent this. In addition to advice on the grant terms and application process, our planning experts can help draft and submit planning applications for successful grant applications.
The grant will currently fund up to 40% of the eligible project cost. You will only receive grant the monies once the building has been paid for and erected. Our Farm Finance department can help secure funding for the project.
