Symonds & Sampson’s property auction on Thursday was a resounding success, as properties were sold in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, and Wiltshire.Auction partner Meredith Wallis said, “It was very good to see so many people eager to bid in the room, with bidders also joining the auction by telephone, proxy, and online, including some from their holidays abroad. The pre-and post-sales should amount to £5 million raised for clients at this auction and to £26 million in the year to date.
“Agricultural land was as popular as ever with pastureland near Sherborne selling at an incredible 100% above the guide and further land near Crewkerne at 21% above its guide. The strongest bidding on the day was reserved for 10 acres of pasture near Gillingham (below), which eventually sold for £16,000 per acre. Woodland also attracted interest, with a 16-acre block at Kings Stag selling for nearly £12,000 per acre”.

Graham Barton, our auctioneer in Devon and Cornwall, was very pleased with property sales in the counties, saying, “We expected that the intensive six-week marketing campaign would generate interest in the auction lots, and it was particularly encouraging to see clients we met at the auction launch in London joining the auction to bid online or by telephone.
"A commercial premises on the seafront at Lyme Regis sold for £520,000 – 36% above the guide, and houses in Exmouth and near St Austell also attracted interest and sold well.

"One of my favourite lots, however, was a chalet bungalow for refurbishment or possible replacement at Lelant, on the estuary near St Ives. Joint agents Millerson and I received an unprecedented level of interest in the lead-up to the auction. After spirited bidding in the room and on the telephone, the gavel dropped at £505,000, 34% above the guide." Full results from the auction can be found here.
