Symonds & Sampson held their ‘beat the budget’ auction on 30 October ahead of the announcements and reported a strong trade for land and bricks and mortar.Auctioneer Mark Lewis said, “ We thought a few buyers would fall away while awaiting to hear how the budget would affect them, but, although we missed a couple, most bidders were looking longer term and wanting to earn income rather than look towards capital tax planning.”
Auction partner Meredith Wallis agreed: “We had bidders from all over the south and East of England, and most were outbid by buyers within our region. The prices paid for agricultural land were particularly pleasing and show a great confidence in British farming.”
