A Successful Spring Update

Published: 17/03/2025 By Lucy Carnell

On Thursday, March 6th, 2025, Symonds & Sampson, Old Mill and Friars Moor Livestock Health hosted a Spring Update at The Udder Farm Shop, welcoming 165 clients old and new.

Over 160 guests attended and were treated to a delicious meal provided by the hosts before enjoying topical presentations.

Lucy Carnell and George Whittaker of Symonds & Sampson provided a perceptive review of the land and farms market from 2024, the election and budget implications, and advice for post-budget and beyond. They also gave an update on the latest and upcoming grant funding available for farmers and landowners.

Helen Rogers, Josephine Child and John Walsh of Friars Moor Livestock Health then detailed interesting technologies to improve farm productivity and sustainability, including dairy genomics, milking robots, and technologies to reduce sheep emissions.

The final and headline talk of the evening was from Old Mill, and Neil Cox and Julia Banwell provided an insightful talk on the latest and proposed tax changes following the Autumn Budget 2024. They outlined the main changes affecting rural businesses and offered suggestions as to how our clients may look to protect themselves and plan for their business's and families futures.

The key takeaway message of the evening was how important it is to be fully aware of your assets. Understanding whether they are owned personally or by family or business and knowing their worth is fundamental. This will enable you to consider what you might be comfortable doing with those assets and undertake the all-important planning.

The evening was a great success, and our clients left with invaluable advice and lots to think about. Many have already asked us when the next event will be taking place. Watch this space.
