Spontaneous Applause at Property Auction

Published: 19/04/2024 By Mark Lewis

Some bidders fought so hard for some of the properties at Symonds & Sampson’s property auction on 18 April that once the gavel fell, the audience broke out in impulsive applause for the buyers.

Auctioneer Mark Lewis has seen this many times before “People are naturally keyed up before an auction and hope to buy their dream lot but what always surprises me is that even those who have missed out still have the generosity of spirit to congratulate the buyer and, often, commiserate with the person who came second”.

Auction Partner, Meredith Holmes, added “ we raised £4.5 million for our clients with a 90% success rate – the best in our region during April – with lots in four counties – Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, and Cornwall – and we had successful bidders in America, from London, as well as local people”.

Amongst the outstanding successes were:

  • A bungalow set in 6 acres near Ringwood selling for £520,000 – 89% above guide.
  • A grade II listed house in Chard selling for £960,000 – 47% above guide.
  • Land in Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset all selling between £13,000 per acre and £24,000 per acre.
  • 1.18 acres near Weymouth selling for £82,000.
  • Properties for renovations and improvement selling between £135,000 and £225,000
  • Three former ecclesiastic buildings near Redruth selling for £125,000
