Symonds & Sampson’s online agricultural auctions are off to a flying start in 2025. Three exceptional online sales have seen over 2,000 lots of farm machinery, plant and livestock equipment offered for sale on behalf of vendors from Southampton to South Cornwall, with prices breaking all records. Our March auction set THREE new records. Not only was it our highest-grossing online collective sale to date, but a New Holland (T6.180) 4wd tractor sold for £57,500, setting the record for the highest individual price. This exceptional quality vehicle is heading from the Salisbury area to its new home in North Devon. In that same sale, a record number of bidders (735) registered to view the sale from as far afield as Northern and Southern Ireland, Cheshire, Norwich, Bedford and Hereford.
It is not just farm machinery that can be successfully sold in an Online Auction; we are now seeing an increasing number of commercial and plant lots being sold. In our January sale, a JCB 8080 Excavator (2009) sold for £22,000, and a Yanmar SV 26 Excavator (2022) sold for £21,000. A strong entry of equestrian equipment sold well in our April online sale. Stable Partitions / internal loose boxes also sold well, with two lots of 5 loose boxes selling for £2,850.
Paul Heard, Partner and Auctioneer at Symonds & Sampson, is delighted to see how online auctions are proving so successful. “Online selling is an interesting option for those looking to sell either individual or multiple lots. They will never replace the traditional ‘on-site’ farm dispersal or collective sale; however, they offer a convenient alternative and are gaining traction.
“Symonds & Sampson are holding online and onsite sales throughout the year, and many of those onsite sales are also open to online bidding. With an ever-increasing number of registered bidders both within the region and beyond, our vendors can be assured that the largest possible audience will see their machinery and equipment”.
