Case Study - Hayne Barton Farm, Tipton St John

Published: 15/09/2025 By Ross Willmington

Symonds and Sampson have recently let a substantial range of modern cattle buildings with 151 acres of land at Hayne Barton Farm, Tipton St John, near Sidmouth.

The holding had approximately 20,000 square feet of excellent farm buildings including three cattle buildings, a fodder shed and a superb set of handling facilities including a cattle crush, weigh platform, pennage, race and loading bay. The package was offered by Informal Tender on an initial 3-year Farm Business Tenancy as a whole or in two lots, it generated a large amount of interest on the open market with farmers coming to view from a wide area.

Ross Willmington, a partner in Symonds & Sampson Farm Agency team, handled the letting with assistance from Ella Wittridge. He commented “it is rare to be able to offer such a good unit as Hayne Barton to let. The demand was very strong, as we anticipated, with farmers prepared to travel long distances for a high quality and decent sized set of cattle buildings. We have a long list of disappointed underbidders so if any farmers are considering letting their farm or part of it, we would be delighted to hear from you. Hayne Barton Farm was let as a whole to a local farmer, and we wish them well with this exciting new venture.”

Symonds & Sampson’s dedicated farm agents have a wealth of experience selling and letting land.
