The Symonds & Sampson property auction on 16 May produced one of the best results in the southwest for the month, with 85% of lots sold, generating £4.2 million for our clients.Auctioneer Mark Lewis was delighted to see a full room: “It was standing room only and a little bit like the pre-COVID auctions, as people crammed into the auction room. We had lots in Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Wiltshire, and Hampshire, and there was the usual mix of agricultural, residential, and commercial lots on offer.”
Auction partner Meredith Wallis explained that the London launch had paid dividends “Members of the auction team visited London in April to launch the auction. Several London and Home County bidders travelled to Dorset to bid, while others joined the auction by telephone or online. With competitive bidding for all lots, and as we can only sell to one person, we have many disappointed bidders with cash to spend.”
Notable results:
- Agricultural Land at Fordingbridge sold for £15,000 per acre
- Woodland sold for £10,000 per acre
- Cottages for renovation sold for between 10% and 16% over the guide
- Development opportunities were sold for up to 17% above the guide price
