Our third property auction in just six weeks took place on 15 November, featuring properties in Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset, and Hampshire.Partner and Head of Auctions Meredith Wallis is delighted to report that almost £10 million has been raised for their clients in October and November. “This was the first auction after the budget, and any thoughts that the property market would be subdued were dispelled as we recorded an 82% success rate with some particularly strong prices.
“We sold commercial, agricultural, and residential properties, and many people travelled to Sherborne to bid in person. We also had bidders joining the auction online, by telephone, and by proxy, so it was a busy day.”
One lot in the auction was particularly poignant for auctioneer Graham Barton. “My father was a dentist in Lyme Regis and ran his practice from our house. My brother and I used to kick around with the ‘boy next door’, and when he inherited his house from his parents, he kindly asked me to offer it for sale. It was a superb property to offer and a lovely moment for me, and I was thrilled to achieve £750,000 for the family, 25% above the guide price.”
Other notable prices included:
- 3.35 acres with a poultry building in Hampshire sold for £150,000, 76% above the guide.
- A site with 10 garages in West Moors sold for £190,000, 58% above the guide.
- A town centre commercial premises in Yeovil sold for £125,000, 25% above the guide.
- A cottage for renovation with 5 acres at Holwell, near Sherborne, sold for £454,000, 51% above the guide.
