We host fundraising events in Bridport for our nominated charities, and sponsor many local events, including the town’s annual Beerfest, Melplash Show, Buckham Fair, Burton Bradstock Festival, Shaves Cross marathon, RNLI week at West Bay, local and village fetes, open gardens, school events, art exhibitions and many more social and community events. Out & About - Sport, Leisure and Culture in Bridport


There’s plenty to keep you active in and around Bridport, with golf at West Bay, cricket at Symondsbury, football, rugby, bowls, tennis, real tennis at The Hyde Tennis club, and gig rowing, amongst many other activities, as well as a well-equipped leisure centre with a thriving swimming club.

Bridport is renowned for its vibrant culture. Bridport Arts Centre and The Electric Palace (recently voted one of the 24 most breathtaking cinemas in the world) host a diverse and impressive calendar of music, theatre, talks, film screenings and events throughout the year. The town has various choral and theatre companies. The town’s rope-making history is documented in the museum (next door to our office in South Street),  and the town is also home to Palmers Brewery, the only thatched brewery in the country, where ale has been brewed since 1794.

With its proximity to both coast and country, Bridport and the surrounding villages and countryside are home to a host of creative artists, makers and growers, with local vineyards and cider makers particularly enjoying national acclaim. Local craft and food fairs, and the town’s weekly markets, are not to be missed!

Explore the historic town, the many charming West Dorset villages in the surrounding countryside, or follow the River Brit to West Bay and the beautiful Jurassic coastline. a 95-mile UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the fossil-rich beaches, towering cliffs, and delightful coastal villages.
