There’s plenty to keep you active in and around Beaminster with golf at West Bay and Cricket St Thomas, thriving cricket, tennis and football clubs, a skate park, leisure centre amongst many others activities. At the heart of the town’s culture is the renowned Beaminster Festival, taking place annually in June. The town’s museum, and nearby Mapperton House offer a step back in time. At the heart of West Dorset, Beaminster and the surrounding countryside are home to a host of creative artists, makers and growers, with local vineyards and cider makers particularly enjoying national acclaim.  Local craft and food fairs are not to be missed! Beaminster is the real-life setting for Thomas Hardy’s fictional town of ‘Emminster’, and the town, plus many local villages, are mentioned throughout his work.

Surrounded by Dorset downland, walkers in Beaminster must be ready to tackle some hills! At 279 metres, Lewesdon Hill is the highest point in Dorset and is connected with Pilsdon Pen Iron Age Hillfort via the Wessex Ridgeway walking route and miles of footpaths and bridleways in the surrounding countryside. Or, follow the River Brit through Bridport to West Bay, and enjoy the  beautiful Jurassic coastline. a 95-mile UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the fossil-rich beaches, cliffs, and delightful coastal and country villages.
