Surveyors Symonds & Sampson, solicitors Porter Dodson, accountants Albert Goodman and Handelsbanken bank held their first Young Rural Business Forum this autumn.
‘The Young Rural Business Forum has been designed as an informal get together of young entrepreneurs in the countryside to meet with successful business people and other like-minded individuals’ comments Rob Fox of Porter Dodson. ‘We want it to be a place for inspiration and advice from some of the professionals you might need to make your dream business a reality’.
For the first forum, Justin Langham of Langham’s Wines joined the forum at Kingston Maurward to give a brief presentation on how he transformed some of his farm into an award winning vineyard and winery followed by a quick sparkling wine tasting session which was certainly enjoyed by all!
The guests then enjoyed supper and chatting to some old and new friends and had the chance to discuss any of their ideas with some of the firms professionals who were happy to advise.
‘After positive feedback from our attendees we will be running the event quarterly and want the venues, guest speakers and topics to be driven by the forum attendees’ adds Will Wallis of Symonds & Sampson. ‘We are already in discussions about visiting Black Cow Vodka (and their famous cocktail bar!).’
‘We hope we can show enthusiastic young people that turning their ideas into a successful business is possible and doesn’t have to be as daunting as you first think! Just some things we can cover are grants, bank lending, planning permission, legal queries and financial planning’.
The forum is open to all. So whether you’re just thinking about a new rural business venture or have already started please join us!
