Government lifting of restrictions in Estate Agency came as a surprise to many, but our agents were ready. Head of Agency Jon Summers reports an extremely busy period for our residential departments.
10 days ago, with just hours’ notice given, the government announced that Estate Agency offices could open within government social distancing and safety legislation. Symonds & Sampson had put plans in place for when this announcement came, so swiftly set the wheels in motion to contact staff and clients, circulate guidance and policies, distribute PPE and ‘open’ their doors.
Of course, it’s not quite business as usual, you can’t call into our offices without an appointment, but we are able to offer an Agency service to all who wish to use it. During the lockdown period, our agents visited houses where possible to shoot video tours to upload to our website and property portals. We are now introducing professionally prepared 3d property tours, which can be used in a controlled manner as an alternative to a first physical viewing, and ensure the safety and best interests of our vendors and prospective purchasers.
Across the whole firm, our Estate Agents anticipated that the lifting of restrictions would see a spike in applicants registering for property in our area – after all, haven’t most of us spent the last 9 weeks saying how lucky we are to live here! Registrations from new applicants, virtual (and where possible physical) property viewings are up, new sales are being agreed, and parties whom committed to sales prior to lockdown are reaching exchange of contracts and moving into their new homes.
The success of our recent online Property Auctions has been widely reported, and we continue to be inundated with enquiries for our auction on 11 June especially from those looking to move to the area from the South East and London.
Following the government announcement to allow non-essential moves, our Letting Agents have been extremely busy arranging the backlog of lettings agreed during lockdown, and are being inundated with new enquiries. Available properties are being snapped up quickly which is leading to a shortage of supply.
The market is moving, so can you. Contact our sales and letting experts in your local Symonds & Sampson office to plan your next step.
