'Sell Out' at Symonds & Sampson first auction of the year

Auctioneer Mark Lewis said “This was a wonderful start to the year and we had some very interesting lots, some of which had never been offered for sale before, so interest throughout the campaign had been building up and there was palpable excitement in the room.

“We knew that the day was going to be strong because over 3,000 legal documents had been downloaded from our website by 203 people and we had telephone and proxy bids from people who could not be present at the auction”.

Notable prices achieved were:

  • Christchurch: A detached house in need of modernisation sold for £282,000
  • Swanage: a one bedroom flat sold, after 36 bids, for £164,000 – 65% above guide.
  • Wimborne: a development site for two semi-detached houses sold for £140,000.
  • Weymouth: a 0.35-acre field with long term development potential sold for £48,000 -37% above guide.
  • Wareham: 11 acres of land and buildings sold, after 41 bids, for £151,000 -25% above guide.
  • Tolpuddle: a 0.48-acre field sold for £42,000 – 40% above guide.

The most interest however was for a potential building plot near Wareham. The land had a single storey tin dwelling on the site and was set in about 0.63 acres (pictured above). The guide of £130,000 was quickly passed and after 37 bids the hammer fell at £206,000 – 58% above guide.
