Round of Applause at Symonds & Sampson Auction

First June auction results in some exciting prices.

Round of Applause at Symonds & Sampson Auction

We held the first of our June auctions in Sherborne where 15 lots went under the hammer.
Auctioneer Mark Lewis said “We had a great mix of commercial properties, building plots, development opportunities and land throughout Dorset and South Somerset but one lot was a stand out.

“Hayden Farm at Charminster Dorchester had been in the Miles family for many generations and after the death of Olive Miles, at the age of 97, the farmhouse, buildings and 10 acres were offered for sale. “I have been into many houses but Hayden Farm was one of the most special ones. It is Grade II listed but with well-proportioned light rooms with good ceiling heights. It has great presence and stature, overlooking its own land and Olive fed scraps to her pet trout in the river Cerne which runs down the boundary of the land before joining the Frome.”

Richard Taylor, partner added “Untouched for many years the property attracted a lot of interest from all over the UK and I met potential buyers at The London Office to discuss the prospects for building works. We marketed with a guide of £575,000 and this was quickly exceeded in the sale room and after 83 bids the hammer fell at £848,000 resulting in a round of applause from the assembled crowd."

Other notable prices:
Developments: A single building plot in Milborne Port £212,000, a barn with lapsed permission with large outbuilding £220,000.
Commercial: A former workshop in Dorchester £140,000, ground floor shop at Templecombe £56,000.
Agricultural land: Wincanton £14,000 acre, Holnest Sherborne £14,800 acre. 50 acres of SSSI land at woods at Semley sold prior to auction.

Symonds & Sampson’s next Sherborne auction is 27 July.
