The award winning firm of auctioneers Symonds & Sampson have had a busy July holding three on farm dispersal sales in Devon and Dorset.
On 11 July the newly liveried farm sales trailer trundled down to Weston near Sidmouth for a sale on behalf of Mrs Franks. Lots included some bygone machinery, much in need of some restoration, and a few items were pre WW2. Notable items were:
BMB President Tractor built in Stockport in about 1954. B.M.B. President tractors were powered by the four cylinder Morris 8 side valve engine. This was essentially the same unit which powered the Morris Minor up to 1952. The tractor required significant restoration and the sale price was £600.
A Fordson Dexta from 1961 sold for £790
An un-plated 4 wheel horse drawn cart sold for £450
On Saturday 20 July the sales team were auctioning at Whitelackington near Piddletrenthide, Dorchester for Paul Green of Green Services who was retiring. Another huge crowd attended to compete for the Machinery, engineering equipment, power and workshop tools and garden equipment.
Notable prices included:
1973 JCB 3C with 5 buckets, fork and front bucket £2020.
An introduced Massey Ferguson saw the gavel fall at £11,000 while a Ford 3600 made £1750.
Much pre-sale interest saw the Blacksmiths Forge sell to £410 and travel back to Devon.
One of the hottest days of the year greeted the team on 26 July at Holloway Farm Shillingstone near Blandford.
The farm belongs to Dorset County Council and there was a wide variety of lots which included 3 non-running tractors:
International 1056 tractor £4700
International 995 tractor £2000
International 885 tractor £1700
Taarup mower conditioner £1200
