Property auctioneers Symonds & Sampson held their largest sale on 24 September, breaking all records. 1,500 people tuned in to watch and engage in the bidding as prices went well above expectations. A mixture of residential, commercial and agricultural land were in sold in Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Hampshire.

Auctioneer Mark Lewis said it had been a long and tiring campaign; “we always start promotion 6 weeks before an auction and from the outset, interest in the lots was relentless with over 8,000 legal packs downloaded, 500 viewings and 350 registered bidders.

“The bidding was very strong and buyers from as far afield as America pushed prices up – people just wants to buy a piece of England.”

Notable prices include:


  • 0.5 acres at Cranborne sold for £114,000
  • 0.3 acres at Wimborne sold for £154,000
  • 2 acres at Gillingham sold for £110,000
  • 8 acres in the New Forest (below) sold for £20,000 per acre

Plots and Development land

  • A development site at Bloxworth sold for £219,000
  • Two houses for modernisation/redevelopment at Swanage sold for £405,000

Properties for renovation

  • A cottage at Verwood (below) sold at £430,000, 56% above guide
  • A bungalow at Queen Camel sold at £275,000, 57% above guide
  • A house in Wimborne sold at £460,000, 55% above guide
  • A cottage at Woodlands sold at £374,000, 50% above guide
  • A house at Netherbury sold at £574,000, 30% above guide


  • A town centre property in Axminster sold for £150,000
  • A shop with apartment in Wimborne sold for £110,000
