The hardiest of young plough men and women from the west country braved the rain earlier this month to compete for a haul of trophies at the Crewkerne Young Farmers Ploughing match held at Dillington Estate.
A total of 101 competitors took part in the 9 tractor classes for both modern and vintage machinery, with some of the inventive wet weather protection concocted for some vintage tractors deserving of a prize of their own. The tractor classes were complimented by the spectacle of horses Isaac & Merlin, led by Mike Yorke of Taunton.
Winner of the Classic Tractor and Plough class sponsored by Symonds & Sampson and Pearce Seeds was Paul Studley, and special mention should be given to Sorrell Lewington from Polden YFC who showed the male YFC members how it should be done by taking home the prize for the best ploughing by any Young Farmer in any class, as well as the prize for the best Female YFC member.
Many thanks to Jane Crabb from our Beaminster office for braving the elements and taking photographs.
