September 2018

The YRBF is your chance to have your say and talk with four experienced rural professional services firms. Porter Dodson Solicitors, Symonds & Sampson Chartered Surveyors, Handelsbanken Dorchester and Albert Goodman Accountants are setting up the forum to support young people working in farming, agriculture, horticulture, diversification, food & drink or any other rurally based business.

Launching the Young Rural Business Forum

The aim is to build a strong network of contacts and, in an informal and relaxed format (plenty of food and drink!) provide information, innovative speakers, vital information to allow you to grow your business and develop skills to suit it. We want to support the next generation of rural business in any way we can. The social aspect is key too, and there will be opportunities to network and have fun along the way.

With the kind permission of Kingston Maurward, near Dorchester we will hold the first forum on Wednesday 26th September at 7pm.  Key note speaker on the evening is Dorset based entrepreneur and wine producer Justin Langham.

In future meetings, we hope to visit local businesses occasionally and talk through the challenges and successes they have faced. The key is that you drive the agenda and subjects important to you and the business in which you work. Subjects that may be covered include:

  • Preparing a bank funding proposal
  • Making the most of the land/assets you have
  • Getting benefit from tax reliefs and allowances for your business
  • Managing succession and family matters

The first evening in the series is on Wednesday, 26th September at 7pm, to find out more and register interest please contact Paula Whitehead, Events Manager at Porter Dodson  01823 625826
