A big finish to Symonds & Sampson’s auction year cements the firm as the league leaders

Flying finale to the 2020 auction year

A successful livestream property auction in December ensured that, for the 14th year, Symonds & Sampson maintained their position as the leading firm of auctioneers in the region.

Auctioneer Mark Lewis praised his small team for devoting so much time to the sale. “Many people see me on the screen and are unaware of all the work it takes behind the scenes to make sure the sale runs smoothly. Registering buyers and making sure the technical side is organised takes a lot of time and, when the potential audience is worldwide, the pressure is really on.

“In 2020 we have auctioned property ‘in the room’, online and now livestream and the flexibility we now have allows people to bid by telephone, proxy and online. It has been a steep learning curve but the lessons we have learnt will hold us in good stead for the 10 sales booked for 2021”.

Notable results included:

  • A cottage near Wimborne for the National Trust sold for £372,000 – 24% above guide. (main image)
  • A development site in Cerne Abbas sold for £352,000 – 28% above guide. Our firm sold the property in 1918 for £272!
  • A bungalow near Wimborne with 2 acres sold for £540,000.
  • A bungalow for improvement near Bridport with views of the sea sold for £433,000 – 44% above guide. (below)

  • A freehold investment with shop and flats in Weymouth sold for £526,000 – 5% above guide. (image above)
