Friday 2 August was a hot day but it was really warm in The Digby Memorial Hall in Sherborne when Symonds & Sampson held their latest property auction. Following their sell out eight days before in Devon this sale gave buyers another chance to buy a variety of lots in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.
Auctioneer Mark Lewis was pleased to see so many people bidding especially in August “Once people start going on holiday interest in property can wain but not this year as August is proving to be extremely busy. It was significant that the number of legal packs downloaded from our site was one of the highest for many months.
Building plots: A wonderful building plot in one of the best roads in Weymouth sold for £312,000 25% above guide and a Class Q at Hazelbury Bryan near Sturminster Newton sold for £280,000 about 46% of the GDV.
Renovations: A pair of cottages set in 2 acres in the Blackdown Hills near Taunton sold for £317,000 27% above guide, a bungalow in Milton Abbas sold for 21% above guide and a substantial 4 bedroom house at West Chinnock Somerset sold for £378,000 16% above guide.
Commercial premises: 14 High Street Wincanton, a shop with flat above sold for £145,000 returning a 9% yield.
Agricultural land: 16 acres at South Cheriton near Wincanton sold for £8,000 acre and 17 acres at Barton St David Somerset sold for £100,000.
