Buyer from Kazakhstan bids online at Dorset’s largest auction
Our auction at Merley House near Wimborne on 28th July was the largest collective property auction ever to be held in Dorset. Auctioneer Mark Lewis reflects on the momentous day.
Properties across 6 counties- Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire were offered for sale, in total raising £8million for our clients.
Auctioneer Mark Lewis said there were some stressful moments during the sale, “We had such a large crowd in the room that the Wi-Fi couldn’t cope. The site for the 2,000 people watching the auction online crashed temporarily, however was soon restored. 30% of the lots were sold to online bidders with the rest sold to buyers either bidding in person or by telephone".
Auction Manager Meredith Holmes added “We had buyers from all over the UK and even Belgium but were surprised to sell some land near Plymouth to someone 3,000 miles away. Kazakhstan is a massive country with many mountains so to get a reception and be successful was quite a feat!”
