Back in the room property auction a great success

March 2022

Symonds & Sampson have been auctioning property throughout the pandemic but with social restrictions in place they have been selling online and via live- stream where the auction is beamed throughout the world. The March 2022 auction, however, was back ‘in room’ and it proved very popular with lots in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset on offer.

Back in the room property auction a great success

Auctioneer Mark Lewis said “Our last in room auction was in February 2020 so it has been a long time without buyers having the option of bidding in person. We were still able to stream the auction live and 1500 people tuned in to watch or bid online but we also had buyers in the room, on the telephone and leaving proxies.”

Auction manager Meredith Holmes added “The amount of interest as ever was huge and on the lot at East Coker Somerset we conducted 108 viewings with 75 enquiries about legal packs. The greatest interest was for an ex caravan park in Bovington Dorset where people from the region but mainly Surrey battled hard.”

Notable prices were:

Land at Cerne Abbas Dorset £8,700 - £11,300 acre.

Land at St Ives Cornwall sold prior.

Land at East Martin Fordingbridge £37,000 acre.

Land at Tintinhull Somerset sold prior.

An ex caravan park in Bovington sold for 284% above guide.

A commercial building in Plymouth £212,000.

A cottage for improvement in Alderholt near Fordingbridge £352,000.

A grade II listed Mill at East Coker sold 60% above guide.

Symonds & Sampson’s next auction in Sherborne is on 7 April and catalogues are available.

They also welcome entries for May in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire and Hampshire.
