London Buyers Love Wessex
Symonds & Sampson were strongly represented at The London and Country Property Show in Chelsea on the 10th May. This prestigious event presented by The London Office, Country Life and London Agents Douglas & Gordon welcomed a large number of buyers throughout the afternoon and early evening. Richard Taylor and Nigel Sheppard assisted by Peter Grout-Smith and Anabel Merriman were kept fully occupied registering new buyers and meeting many of our contacts from London and across the country.
The Symonds & Sampson stand had a steady flow of potential buyers throughout the day. The south west remains one of the most favored locations for those buyers wishing to escape from the rigors of life in the capital. Our stand was made even more attractive to buyers by the local products generously supplied by House of Dorchester chocolates, Olives Et Al and Thomas J Fudge’s Remarkable Bakery (see photograph) Visitors tucked into cheese, crackers and chocolates, local beers and ales all of which were very well received.
Buyers who registered were mainly London based and some from Scotland and Switzerland, with price spectrums ranging from £250,000 -£2.5 million. Demand mainly seemed to be for larger town and country properties and holiday bolt holes. Property close to the coast from Bournemouth in the east through to the Dorset/Devon borders was very much in demand.
Our region is blessed with some of the finest independent schools together with some very sought after schools from the state sector. Schooling was in some cases the driving factor for buyers to move away from London. Competition for school places within the capital is now so high that parents are relocating to our region as they have a realistic chance of gaining a place for their child at a school of their choosing. The areas between Sherborne in the west and Poole (with its Grammar School system) in the east were particularly in demand. There is a growing demand for property in the rented sector as a first step to relocation and interest in our property auctions was very evident.
Both clients and buyers gain a real advantage from this initiative. Ultimately we are able to increase our pool of buyers by personal contact which increases our chances of maximizing the sale of our client’s property. Whilst the internet is an important and essential tool ours is very much still a ‘people’ business. A thoroughly enjoyable and productive day with many new leads to follow up over the coming weeks.
