The Best Second-Hand Furniture Shops in Dorset

The Best Second-Hand Furniture Shops in Dorset

First time buyers or renters usually are down to their last penny when they move into their home and unfortunately not all property comes furnished! Brand new sofas, beds and dining sets can come at a pretty hefty cost but luckily Dorset offers a wealth of exceptional second-hand furniture shops with many ready to move in items and some perfect for the up-cycling enthusiast!

These brilliant second hand stores have it all. Items range from your bog-standard pine dining table to some rather more unusual items but what they do have in common is an affordable price tag!

Dorchester Curiosity Centre – Dorchester

This is one of my favourite shops and has some more unusual pieces. You won’t find any cheap chipboard chests here! Instead expect some quality antique items, as well as some projects pieces and some ready-made upcycled bits! It is sectioned into separate dealers so there is a huge variety of styles. Paintings, glasses, lamps etc. are also plentiful! There is also a café, so you can enjoy some cake even if you haven’t found the perfect chair.

Molly’s Den – Bournemouth & Christchurch

Similar to the Curiosity Centre, Molly’s Den is made up of many vendors. Expect to find a few more refurbished and upcycled items here. You are unlikely to find a large dining table or three door wardrobe but you should stumble upon pretty dressers, side tables and reupholstered accent chairs as well as accessories like lampshades and pillows.

Toad Hall – Wimborne

If you love shabby chic, you will love Toad Hall. Think light grey and cream painted furniture, multi coloured knobs, Sophie Allport handmade lampshades and so on! If you want to furnish your kitsch cottage on the cheap this is the place for you. If you don’t find what you are looking for there are lots of other nick-nacks to buy and a tearoom so you might at least leave with a brownie

Clear It – Blandford

Possibly the cheapest of the lot Clear It mainly deals in a lot of quality pine and oak bedframes, dining sets and wardrobes with the odd sofa or two. Most items are perfect as they are but affordable enough to be given a makeover with a coat of paint or two.

Charity Furniture Warehouses – Across the County!

A quick google and you will discover loads of these warehouses across Dorset. Weldmar, British Heart Foundation and Julia’s House are just some of charities that have these stores. They can usually be found in industrial estates. The furniture can be VERY hit and miss but certainly worth popping in if your nearby!

It should be noted that unlike ordinary stores, you never know what you are going to get and sometimes you may walk away empty handed and other times you may bag yourself a real bargain!
