Before & After - A Completed Barn Conversion
The team at Symonds & Sampson, alongside some other excellent professionals achieved planning and project managed the conversion of this rather disheveled barn. Their hard work has paid off and the proof is in the pudding.
In 2013 Edward Dyke, Head of Planning at Symonds & Sampson, working alongside Western Design Architects, achieved planning permission for the conversion of a redundant and somewhat dilapidated, traditional barn for use as holiday accommodation in North Dorset.
After the permission lapsed, in 2016 Edward revisited the project and achieved a new consent for full residential use. James Shapland, Head of Building Survey then managed the discharge of planning conditions before the works could commence. James then collated all information and managed a new submission under the Building Regulations, also managing a tender period and appointment of the successful tendering contractor; A. Hammond & Son of Sturminster Newton.
The works were then administered and manged by Symonds & Sampson under formal contract, and client, contractor and S&S couldn’t be happier with the end result.
James says, 'This is a lovely conversion which makes full use of natural light in a contemporary design, whilst keeping more than a nod to the original and characterful elements. This was a tricky project that was not without its complexities. Works in the ground to underpin, and reduce the ground levels of the existing were extensive, and with the wet winter we had, it proved challenging!'
