A Focus On... Ilminster
A focus on the town that is home to our newest office...
A thriving market town set within the beautiful South Somerset countryside, Ilminster is truly a hidden gem. It is a classic rural town with the charms and quirks one might expect yet is located with quick access to the main roads to Exeter, Taunton and London; perfect for the commuter.
For a small town Ilminster has a large variety of eateries, catering to all taste buds and occasions. The Shrubbery is perfect for a Sunday Roast, The Kitchen and The Retreat in the main high street are just right if you’re feeling fancy and The Stonemasons’ offers classic pub grub and a number of fabulous cafes serve delicious homemade cakes and coffees.
However, if you’re in the ‘grab and go’ type of mood there is a number of excellent takeaways. Our personal favourite would have to be The Balti House!
The town is full of boutique and artisan shops with some fabulous ‘Aladdin’s cave style shops such as Airs & Graces. From bookshops and butchers to beauty salons there is something for everyone in the town. The larger supermarkets of Tesco and Co-op are also just on hand for the big food shop.
Ilminster is lucky to have several good schools in the area both excellent state and independent for all ages. Within the town itself, there is Greenfylde infant school and Swanmead middle school which are especially convenient for busy parents!
The town dates back to the Domesday Book (1086) and there is still a 16th century building in Ilminster. Within the centre there is an eclectic mix of property ages and types, from Georgian Houses to modern flats.
Most houses within the town range from £150,000 to £350,000 but with some of the larger houses just outside of Ilminster worth around £800,000.
