12 Walks of Christmas - Day 9 - Stourhead
Residential Manager Chris Drake is lucky enough to live near King Alfred's Tower, where he and dog Herbie enjoy wonderful woodland walks
I am lucky enough to live 5 minutes from Stourhead and my dog Herbie loves going for walks in the stunning woodland behind the estate.
We set out from King Alfred's Tower, near South Brewham from where there are miles and miles of stunning paths and tracks to explore, much of which is 'off-lead' open woodland for Herbie. If we follow the 18th terrace ride through the woodlands and glades, we can walk all the way to Stourhead, and grab refreshments at either the cafe or the Spreadeagle Inn in readiness for the return journey.
The views along the way are spectacular, particularly looking west across Bruton and Batcombe from the Tower, and Stourhead can be busy at peak times, for much of the walk you barely meet a sole. One thing is for sure though, that Herbie is always worn out by the time we head home!
