12 Walks of Christmas - Day 1 - Chilfrome
We've asked 12 of our keen dog-owners across the firm to share their favourite local walks. First up is Marketing Manager Sally Reid, with walk at Chilfrome.
One of my favourite walks is around the beautiful valley between Chilfrome and the A356. It's close to my home, so I can drive, walk or run there depending on my energy levels. Not only is it a beautiful rolling valley with super views, but it’s often a very productive walk with hedgerows laden with blackberries, sloes, crab applies and holly. In the autumn, I’ve even found the odd mushroom in the valley bottom. The valley is site of the popular Cattistock Summer Show, and will be home to the Cattistock Point to Point in 2020. It’s best avoided during the lambing season though, when it’s heavily populated with sheep!
Park at the bottom of Higher Drove and follow the drove past the barn, and you’ll come to hunting gate with bridle path sign on the left-hand side. There's a fairly stiff climb to the top of the valley, but the views are worth it and it's a gentle walk gratually dropping back down to the car. it’s a short drive to the Fox & Hounds in Cattistock where a warm welcome always awaits.
