Evening Sale at Longburton

The Symonds and Sampson farm sales team travelled to Longburton on Thursday 1st July for an evening dispersal sale of organic cattle, rare breed sheep and pigs, goats and deadstock for S.R. Harris & Partners. The sale proved to be a huge success with buyers and onlookers flocking from all over the south of England for a very enjoyable sale. This resulted in a truly exceptional trade for all lots on offer.

The sale commenced with 200 lots of deadstock ranging from modern livestock equipment, farm shop equipment right through to agricultural bygones.

The 20 cattle were then sold to a strong demand, with a Simmental x cow with Angus bull calf at foot selling to £1000, 26 month old Simmental Heifer to £760, 18 month old Hereford x heifers to £515. Dexter cows sold particularly well averaging £385 and topping at £440.

Rare breed sheep sold to a fantastic trade for what was on offer, Jacob 6 tooth ewes with Poll Dorset x singles sold to £128, Jacob ewe lambs to £68, 7 Herdwick full mouth ewes with 9 lambs sold at £80 a unit and a broken mouth Poll Dorset ram sold at £75. Goats also met plenty of interest with Boer does reaching £102 and orphan Boer wethers making £52.

Buyers competed to own the quality pigs on offer from start to finish resulting in a fierce trade and some excellent prices achieved. Prices to note include, Large White x Lop gilts to £145, Pedigree Oxford Sandy and Black sow £150, Pedigree Tamworth sow with 7 piglets £310, Pedigree Tamworth Gilts to £100, Large White x Lop stores to £61, Oxford Sandy & Black Weaners to £43. And then probably the most unusual lots of the sale, the Iron Age pigs which sold to £308 for a sow & 5 piglets, Sow in pig £260 and the 4 year old Boar made £190.
